"Welcome to the Hornets nest..." Here is a Super RARE guitar we found kicking around The Netherlands last month! This is a 100% original Hornet 3V model guitar that features 3 great sounding lip-stick pickups, a working trem, 3 pickup on/off switchs as well as volume, master volume, and tone controls. The Coral line of guitars was introduced in 1967 by the new owners of Danelectro, MCA. Because Danelectro sold about 85% of it's products to Sears at the time, MCA started the Coral line to sell to other distributors. Coral hollow bodies only were manufactured in Japan; all other Coral parts were made in the New Jersey Danelectro plant. Coral guitars were only produced for two years however, as MCA closed the Danelectro plant in 1969, making them exceedingly rare today. The Hornet model has been associated with Pete Townshend of The Who since he strapped one on in late-1967. This example is in excellent playing condition with very little play wear and an arrow-straight neck. The Hornet was offered in two colors: Red and Sunburst. This one started out Red, but left the factory with a nice sunburst finish. The original "Vincent Bell" singnature design pickguard is in great shape and reminds us of one of the premier guitar designers of all time (remember the Sitar guitar?). The unique angled headstock design was a departure for Danelectro and can only be found on Coral models, as is true for the original double-line Kluson tuners and pearloid pickguard. Very cool and collectible piece and a monster player to boot!
