1954 Guild X-175 Manhattan
If you've never played a 50s Guild archtop, you're missing out. Incredible looks, tone and feel. They have a direct link to the original New York Epiphone builders as many of them came to work for Guild in the 50s. This is a great example of the breed. Guild's bread and butter jazz box. The top is spruce while the back and sides are maple. Original New York label. The laminated maple neck features a bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays. Dual Franz dog ear single coils deliver big tone. These pickups dish out the snarl of a Gibson P-90 without the inarticulate mud. Open back Waverly tuners and a harp tailpiece keep it all rock solid. The finish is classic sunburst. An incredible jazz, rockabilly or blues guitar that's attractively priced! This is a great sounding and feeling Guild. The neck is straight and the action is good. The pickups deliver killer vintage tone. A nice guitar. Condition wise, this Guild shows the wear you would expect from a 55+ year old instrument. Scratches, checking, dents and dings add to the vibe. It may have had a neck reset in the past evidenced by its great feel, a white heel cap and some paint touchup I only noticed under a black light. A solid example showing honest playwear. Comes in a later hardshell case.
