1969 Gibson Byrdland

A jazz, blues, rockabilly machine! The Byrdland was designed by the great Hank Garland and Billy Byrd. Here's your chance to get one at a great price. Basically a thinline L-5, the Byrdland has been a top choice of super pickers everywhere. There's nothing quite like it. The thinline hollow body has a solid, carved spruce top while the back and sides are figured maple. The 23.5 inch scale maple neck features a bound ebony fingerboard with block inlays. The shorter neck allows a player to do fancy chords with ease. Dual patent sticker humbuckers deliver big tone. Great, warm sounding pickups. The covers look to have been changed. A fancy tailpiece, ebony bridge and massive Kluson Sealfast tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is a gorgeous classic sunburst and is set off by gold hardware, multiple binding and fancy inlay work. A top of the line instrument!

This Byrdland plays and sounds great. The neck is straight, the action is good and the frets are fine. The pickups are very warm and deliver a variety of tones. The neck has had a pro repair behind the nut. It looks like a typical Gibson crack. The finish has been retouched and the work appears solid. You can see a pic here. Make no mistake, it's solid. Otherwise, this guitar is very nice for its age. It shows some checking, scratches, dents and dings as you would expect on a vintage instrument that has been taken care of. I suspect the pickguard may be a repro but can't be 100% sure. A great looking guitar. Comes in a recent hardshell case.

I've long been a fan of Gibson's jazz boxes but the prices can definitely be sky high. Looking around, most Byrdlands are priced upwards of $6K on the used market with 60s ones even higher. Here's a nice example that's priced within reach for a player. BUY IT NOW and own a great guitar!
