1968 Guild T-100 Slim Jim
An incredible value in a USA made archtop! Guild is well known for offering players excellent instruments at unbelievable prices. This T-100 is no exception. Made in Westerly, Rhode Island to the highest standards of quality, the T-100 was a back to basics electric archtop. The thinline hollow body is constructed of laminated maple. The laminated mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. A single coil "Mickey Mouse" pickup teams with an added humbucker for cool tomes. Sorry troops, the rout was too tight for me to easily pull the pickup. The mounting ring is a little deformed as well. Dual on/off switches were added to the upper bout as well. The tuners have been upgraded with Grover Rotomatics. A harp tailpiece and floating bridge round out the hardware. The finish is a gorgeous vintage sunburst and is set off by chrome hardware. A very nice guitar. Many players would take a Guild over a Gibson or Gretsch citing better quality and tone. I'm a huge Guild fan. There's no better value in a USA made archtop!
This Guild plays well and has cool tone. The neck is straight and the action is fine. The frets are dressed low but play nicely. The pickups deliver cool vintage tone. Condition wise, this one has seen some use as you would expect of a 43 year old instrument. Normal checking, dents, dings and scratches. No cracks or breaks evident. The headstock overlay looks to have been reglued or is possibly coming up, a common Guild malady. Comes in a recent hardshell case.
Guild no longer offers any electric archtops. A real shame really as they were one of the last bargains out there. Many players have discovered the merits of this great company. Here's a cool vintage Guild that's priced for the player.
