1970 Ovation Eclipse 1235-5 Hollowbody Guitar
Ovation's electric instruments were all but forgotten by many but have been rediscovered by many players as cool instruments for not a lot of cash. Ovation's Storm series included the Eclipse, Tornado, Thunderhead and Typhoon Bass. Cool hollowbody instruments with top notch quality. The bodies for these hollowbody instruments were actually made by Hofner in Germany. The 25.5 inch scale maple neck features an ebony fingerboard with dot inlays. Dual pickups (made by Dearmond according to some sources) dish out killer tones. Kluson Deluxe tuners, adjustable bridge and trapeze tailpiece keep it rock solid. The finish is a matte satin black. According to what I've heard, Ovation recieved a shipment of bodies from Germany that weren't painted correctly. The only paint they had in that particular location was the textured paint they used on the bowl back acoustics. These guitars became the Eclipse. A fairly rare and uncommon guitar as well.
This Ovation plays and sides great. The neck is straight, the action is good and the frets are fine. the pickups sound awesome. A nice instrument. Condition wise, this is a cool vintage piece. The textured paint has held up well over the years. The guitar shows normal wear but is in great shape for its age. Comes in a recent gigbag.
If you want a hip 60s vibe and don't want to pay big money for a Gibson, Gretsch or Guild, this Ovation would make a cool choice. Hip, Hi Fi 60s tones in a cool looking package. Fairly rare as well, you'll be hard pressed to find something as cool for the bucks.
